LEAGUE OF IRELAND UNDER 17 SOUTHERN SECTION, Carlisle Grounds, 10 April 2016

Bray Wanderers/St Joseph’s Boys under 17’s edged out Wexford Youths in a very entertaining game played at the Carlisle Grounds. Bray’s Luke Devlin broke clear on 10 minutes and shot narrowly wide in the first shot at goal. David Gilshenan then saw his shot on 20 minutes blocked by the Wexford defence for a corner. On 30 minutes Conor Maguire’s corner on the right caused problems for the Wexford defence but evaded everyone.

On 36 minutes substitute Dooham Masood fired wide in Wexford’s first real threat on the home goal. A minute later Sam O’Neill and Masood combined well for the visitors only for Evan White to block Masood’s goal bound shot.

A minute before the break Cian Doyle fired a Wexford free kick over the Bray crossbar. Bray then went close after Conor Cummins and David Gilshean combined only for a Wexford defender to clear for a corner.

Four minutes into the second period Aaron Malone scored with an overhead kick after a Luke Cummins corner fell to him inside the area. Two minutes later Luke Devlin fired home a long range effort into the top corner to double the home sides lead.

Wexford responded two minutes later when Sam O’Neill scored. On 57 minutes O’Neill was then fouled inside the area and Cian Doyle scored the resultant penalty to level the tie.

Both sides had further chances in this end to end game. Bray’s Evan White just failed to connect to Whelan’s corner on 60 minutes and two minutes later Brown saved at the other end from Quinlan’s shot.

On 73 minutes Wexford broke down the right through Brazil and he fed Murphy who shot narrowly over the Bray bar.

On 89 minutes David Gilshenan’s corner was headed home from close range by Conor Maguire to earn the home side all three points.
