Academy Under 14s qualify for Shield Final

Bray Wanderers under 14s progressed to the final of the National Shield with a convincing 3-0 win over Dundalk FC in Oriel Park on Saturday. The young seagulls took the lead on the 20-minute mark with a tidy finish from James Lonergan. Ronan Dawson picked the ball up just inside the Dundalk half and cut through the Dundalk defence before squaring the ball to Lonergan who slotted it to the keepers right. Bray doubled their lead when Jack Nolan pounced on a goal mouth scramble after Dundalk failed to clear a corner. Bray could’ve wrapped things up before halftime but for some wonderful goalkeeping preventing Alain Kizenga from netting a third. Bray wrapped things up 10 minutes into the second half, when Daragh Emmett pounced on a defensive error to slot home from 35 yards out.

Under 14 team v. Dundalk: Joe Collins, Ronan Dawson, Janek Sarwinski, James Lonergan, Evan Kane, Ethan Cheese, Daragh Emmett, Jack Nolan, Barry Kealy, Alsin Kizenga, John Leonard. Subs (interchangeable): Sam Baker, Max Colbert, Sam Rothwell.

The under 14s will now play Shelbourne in the Shield final on Saturday. Kick off will be 1.30pm in the Carlisle Grounds.

The under 17 Boys team defeated Waterford FC 2-0. First half goals from Stephen Mohan and team captain Cian Doyle together with a fine goalkeeping display by local lad Jack Ross from Little Bray paved  the way for this  Wanderers win in the EA Sports u17 National League game last Saturday.  Head Coach Clint Nelson said ” this was an important win for us over a very good Waterford team and keeps us in contention for league runners up spot. We went into the game missing 3 attacking players but the lads who came in certainly stepped up to the mark on the day”

Bray now head into their final league game of the season next Saturday away to Bohemians.

The under 15 Boys were defeated in the Shield semi final on Sunday in Berryfield by Cork City. The game ended 2-2 after extra time with Dylan Ryan & Hugh Parker scoring for Bray. Cork won the penalty shootout 5-3.
