U19 match action; Steven Sweeney clears away

The under 19s were defeated 4-2 at home by Group 4 league leaders Shamrock Rovers on Sunday at the Carlisle Grounds in their final league game of the season. Eric Abudiore headed Rovers in front from a corner on 8 minutes. Rovers were on top in the first half and Wanderers had to rely on Enda Minogue to keep them in the game with the keeper making several saves. Rovers doubled their lead on 50 minutes after a Wanderers short kick out was intercepted by Jamie Doyle who ran on and chipped the ball over Minogue to the net.

Wanderers pulled a goal back on 62 minutes from the penalty spot. Substitute Adlane Boulmelh was pushed in the box by the Rovers keeper. Boulmelh scored from the resulting penalty, shooting straight down the centre. Cian Curtis restored Rovers two goal advantage on 82 minutes when he found himself clear and fired past Minogue. Aidimo Emakhu scored an overhead kick to put Rovers 4-1 up on 87 minutes before Cian Maher pulled a goal back for Wanderers a minute later.
