Bray Wanderers Match Preview

League of Ireland First Division

Friday February 16, Carlisle Grounds

Kick-off 7.45pm

In what will be Bray Wanderers’ 40th season in the League of Ireland, Head Coach Ian Ryan has said the new-look squad is excited to get going for the 2024 campaign.
The Seagulls welcome UCD to the Carlisle Grounds on Friday in what will be the club’s 450th league match in the First Division.
“It’s a really exciting time. It’s a long time leading up to this moment since last October. It’s what we’ve trained for. It’s what we’ve planned for. So, the first game of the season brings real excitement for everybody. We can’t wait to get started” Ryan revealed.
With eight new arrivals, three players returning to the club, and several players promoted from the underage ranks, the Wicklow club will look to build on a unbeaten competitive start to the season which has seen the Green and White’s reach the Quarter Finals of the Leinster Senior Cup.
“Anybody whose come in the door has to be hungry. The squad has to prove a point individually. Then we do that as a group. There’s a real drive and determination to make sure we have a good year” stated Ryan,
But he is not underestimating the challenge the ‘College will pose.
“It’s going to be a really tough game for us to start with. We know them well; we’ve watched them a couple of times in pre-season. They have really good, exciting young players. And players who will go on to have a really long career in the league. So, we’ve done our homework on them. But we’ll look to try and impose ourselves on the game.”

New recruit Peter Grogan is the only absentee with the striker picking up an injury during pre-season.
“He’s started back jogging. But he’ll miss Friday night” explained Ryan.

It will be the 86th match between the clubs in all competitions.
It will be the first meeting of the clubs since First Division play-off final back in November 2021 when the Student’s won 2-0 at Dalymount Park.
