Local boy, Dylan Barnett has been selected as the Bray Wanderers Player of the year for 2020.
Dylan was ever present in the First division campaign in 2020 making 18 league appearances and scoring twice.
Gary Cronin has expressed his delight at seeing Dylan Barnett scoop the Bray Wanderers 2020 Player of the Season award and felt that the hometown hero was definitely the correct recipient for the gong.
The Bray man featured predominantly at left-back but also popped up on the left wing and slotted in at centre-half and did so in a typically classy fashion wherever he played.
‘Dylan had double figures for his assists; must have been 11 or 12 assists between free kicks and corners. He has that ability and it’s well deserved. He’s been an excellent pro for me for the last two years and I’m delighted to have him at the club still. He scored a couple of goals as well and he played every minute of the season except I think I took off him against Longford when we had the game won. Very worthy winner of the player of the year in my opinion.’
Cronin also had good news for another local star as Aaron Barry looks set to wear the captain’s armband in 2021. The Arklow native was a rock and a very commanding presence at the heart of the defence in the last campaign and the Co. Wicklow club will now be captained by a Co. Wicklow man.
‘When Paul (Keegan) didn’t start games last year, it was Aaron Barry and that won’t change. Aaron was excellent for us last year. We had Aaron and Gary Shaw there as senior leaders and we’ve one or two extra ones coming in this year with Conor (Clifford) and Mark Byrne but at this moment – and in the pre-season friendlies you’ll see it – Aaron is the captain of the side. ‘
Cronin also confirmed that he hasn’t locked away the chequebook just yet ahead of the closure of the transfer window on Thursday. The Bray boss is extremely pleased with what he has assembled but will keep his eyes peeled if the right player becomes available in the coming days.
