Leinster Senior Cup Match Report – Bray Wanderers 1 Wexford FC 0

Bray Wanderers 1 Wexford FC 0

Thomas Morgan’s first senior goal helped Bray pick up all three points in the revamped PTSB Leinster Senior Cup.

The striker grabbed the decisive score in the first period of the Group C tie at Home Farm FC’S Whitehall venue on Wednesday (January 31) to defeat Wexford 1-0.

The win was even more impressive as the Wicklow outfit played the last ten minutes of the contest with ten players – as Freddie Turley departed with cramp – after using all five substitutes.

The Seagulls had started the Group C campaign last Friday with an away score-less draw with Evergreen FC in Kilkenny.

From that line-up, Turley was handed a full senior debut in defence. Guillermo Almirall came into midfield while Morgan started in attack.

Underage starlets Alain Kizenga and Zach Nolan featured after the interval.

Jamie Duggan would make his senior debut for the club off the bench while the returning Josh McGlone was an unused substitute.

Wanderers hit the front after 18 minutes. Almirall won possession off an opposition throw wide left. He squared infield to Morgan. He took a touch before bending right footed from 20-yards to the far-right corner of the net.

Three minutes later, Darren Craven’s corner was cleared back to him. Alex Moody made the save. Both Kilian Cantwell and Morgan couldn’t control the loose ball with Turley firing the follow up wide.

Almirall went close on 38. He dug out a right footed attempt that Moody parried. But Turley just missed the rebound.

Then in the 40th minute, Cristian Magerusan broke up the middle. He slipped in Morgan, but Moody got down low to the left to make a fine save.

Wexford best chance in the opening period came in the 44th minute. Play was switched left to right with Cian Curtis fizzing just off target with a shot on the run.

Both clubs reshuffled their packs around the hour mark – with the ten changes bringing a disjointed look to the game.

But the Slaneysiders, with the extra man advantage, went close late on.

Subs Darragh Levingston and Kaylem Harnett linked wide right in the 82nd minute with fellow reserve Thomas Oluwa swivelling but curling wide.

Then in the 88th minute, Harnett’s cross from the right byline took a deflection. It evaded Jimmy Corcoran but the covering Kilian Cantwell cleared the danger in front of goal.
