Wanderers up to third after late Treaty win

Bray Wanderers 1 (Clifford 90(p)

Treaty United 0

Carlisle Grounds, First Division, 13 August 2021

Bray Wanderers moved up to third place in the First division, their highest league position of the season, after Conor Clifford’s last-minute penalty eared them victory over play off rivals Treaty United. Wanderers are now unbeaten in seven league games.

Wanderers had plenty of possession in the first half without really testing Tadhg in the treaty goal. On the half hour the ball broke from Joe Doyle in the area to Richie O’Farrell but his shot from close range was straight at Ryan. On the stroke of half time Darren Craven cut inside from the left but fired over.

Andrew Quinn’s perfectly timed tack on Matt Keane on 53 minutes denied the Treaty player a shot on goal.   Keane drove a shot inches wide of the post on 73 minutes. Dylan Barnett’s corner on 89 minutes found the head of Andrew Quinn but he couldn’t direct his header on goal.

On the stoke of full time Richie O’Farrell was fouled in the area and Kevin O’Sullivan pointed to the spot. Conor Clifford fired low to the left to beat Ryan for the winner.
