SJ.B Academy week-end round up 27.05.2018

The National League underage teams will have a mid-season break after next week-end’s League cup games to allow for players school examinations.

From the SJ.B Academy point of view its particularly pleasing to see progression for individual players between the 17’s, 19’s and the first team.

Last week, for example, the first team squad included Adam Dempsey and Dragos Mamaliga from the 19s (Dragos came on at half time against Dundalk and acquitted himself well) and Cian Walsh, Alex Rafferty & Byron O’Gorman from the under 17’s. Cian, Alex, and Byron then played for the 19’s on Saturday and played well having made the step up from the 17’s.  In addition to the lads just mentioned Shane Flynn made his first team debut against Cork City in Turners Cross two week’s ago at 16 years of age and Jake Ellis is still recovering from injury.

Shane Flynn will be departing for Leicester City, Roland Idowu is departing for Southampton and Festy Ebosele is departing for Derby County all later this month. That brings to four the number of academy graduates who have signed for English clubs in the last 12 months (Max Murphy – to Stoke City last June).

The visitors ended the game with ten players after Niall Barr was dismissed for a second yellow card on 72 minutes.
