U15 Match Report – Athlone Town 2 Bray Wanderers 1

Athlone Town 2 Bray Wanderers 1

Bray’s four-game winning streak in the U15 LOI Academy Phase 2 Tier Two (North) came to an end on Sunday afternoon.

When the teams met last month at Ballycorus, the Green and White’s ran out 7-3 winners.

But in a tight game on the all-weather at Lissywollen, the Midlanders came out on top 2-1.

After a bright start, the ‘Town broke the dead-lock in the opening third.

But the away side levelled matters in the middle third when Cristiano Bramley pounced on a rebound after an initial shot had been parried.

Wanderers goalkeeper Alex Forde saved a penalty with his feet before the hour.

With both teams pushing for the winner in the final third, the Westmeath outfit broke away to claim the points.

The results means the Seasiders drop to fifth in the section.

UCD lead the way on 24 points form 12 matches. Derry City are second on 23 points from 13 games. Athlone are now third (20 points from 13 fixtures), with Dundalk in fourth on 18 points from 13 outings.

Bray are also on 18 points but from 11 games. They still have to face Sligo Rovers, UCD and Drogheda United in their remaining three fixtures.
