U17’s go down narrowly away to Shelbourne in Mark Farren Cup

Shelbourne 1
Bray Wanderers 0

In the third meeting of the teams so far this season, Bray suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Shelbourne on Saturday in Group B of the U17 EA Sports National Underage League Mark Farren Cup.
In a tight, competitive game at the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh in Dublin, a goal for the Reds ten minutes before half time settled the contest.
Bray had started their Group B campaign last week by defeating Drogheda United 2-1 at Ballycorus while Shels overcame Dundalk 3-0 at home.
When the two teams met back in March, Shels won 3-1 at the AUL in Group C of the U17 EA Sports National Underage League. But in April at Ballycorus, the Seagulls won the reverse fixture by a 2-1 score-line.
With clear cut chances at a premium, the visitors went close in the opening period when winger Conor O’Gorman broke clear. But saw his low effort graze the post.
Shels grabbed what proved to the winner in the 35th minute through Mark Isong.
Wanderers’ best opening in the second period came when Irish U16 cap Luke Nolan crossed into the box from the left wing. But Paddy Kildee-Doolan’s header was deflected wide of the target.
Elsewhere in the section on Saturday, Dundalk won their Louth derby 5-0 away to Drogheda United at Head in the Game Park.
Bray complete the Group section of the competition on Saturday July 2 away to Dundalk at Oriel Park – knowing a victory will see them secure the runners-up berth.
