U19 Match Report – Bray Wanderers 0 Shelbourne 4

Bray Wanderers 0 Shelbourne 4

Bray’s search for a home U19 LOI Academy win this season continues as Shelbourne maintained their 100% winning record so far in 2023.

The Reds led 1-0 at the interval on Wednesday evening before adding three more goals after the break at Ballycorus in the Group A encounter.

One bonus for Wanderers was that club captain Dave Webster got more minutes in his legs by playing over a hour as he continues his rehabilitation after a year on the side-lines with injury.

The away side took a tenth minute lead when a defensive mix-up allowed Gbemi Arubi to capitalise with a low finish close in.

The Seasiders did have the chance to equalise on 48 but Thomas Morgan fired over the bar inside the box.

Moments later at the other end, Arubi blasted over just yards out.

But he made no mistake on 59 when played through as the forward slotted past Jack Ross.

Substitute Gavin Hodgins came off the bench to make his mark.

The striker gathered fellow reserve Sean Cummins’ centre from the right, swivelled to make space and shot on the turn from 15-yards with a low drive.

The same pair worked the trick against in the 82nd minute off a breakaway. This time, Cummins delivered low from the right with the unmarked Hodgins converting at the back post to the roof of the net.
