Under 19s defeated by St. Pats

Bray Wanderers (U19) 0 St. Patrick’s Athletic (U19) 2

Under 19 squad v. St. Patrick’s Athletic

A goal in each period saw Bray fall to an U19 EA Sports National Underage League defeat on Wednesday evening. With a much-changed line-up from that which defeated Kerry 4-3 last Sunday at the same venue at Ballycorus, the Green and White’s failed to score for the first time this season in Group A when going down to St. Pat’s.

After a defensive error, the visitors took a fourth minute lead with a wonder strike from distance by Kyle Robinson. Wanderers almost levelled in the 21st minute. From Jack Curran’s in-swinging left-footed free from the right flank, an away player diverted the ball back towards his own goal. But Josh Keeley brilliantly got down well to make a vital save.

Josh McGlone could not convert a good opportunity to equalise early in the second period. The Saints then added to their tally in the 57th minute. From a corner, there was a goalmouth scramble. Ben Clark made a save but Ben Curtis buried the rebound. The hosts rallied towards the end. Substitute Evan Harte got on the end of a left-wing centre by fellow reserve Zach Donoghue. But Keeley blocked the header. Near full time, Harte stung the palms’ of the Saints custodian late on with a fierce drive.

It is a quick turnaround for the Seagulls. They travel to face Galway United away on Sunday May 1. Kick-off at Maree Oranmore FC is at 3.30pm.
