Wanderers defeated by Cabinteely

Cabinteely FC 4 Bray Wanderers 2
Stradbrook, First Division, 21 February 2020

Starting X1

Wanderers 2020 First division campaign got off to the worse possible start when the visitors found themselves four goals down at the interval.

Wanderers gave debuts from the start to Brian Maher, on loan from St. Patrick’s Athletic, John Ross Wilson, Aaron Barry and Ryan Graydon while Jack Watson was introduced from the bench for his debut.

Cabinteely took full advantage of playing with a gale force wind and rain and took the lead on 17 minutes. Ex-Wanderer, Kieran Marty Waters scored with a low finish past Maher after the ball broke to him just inside the area.
Just on the half hour, the hosts added a second when Vilius Labutis scrambled home from close range after Wanderers failed to clear. Seven minutes later, Ireland under-19 keeper Maher saved well from a Luke Clucas free-kick, but Dalton was quickest to react to the loose ball and fired home from close range.
Dalton added his second on the stroke of half time. He picked up the ball on the edge of the area and curled a shot into the top corner of the net giving Maher no chance.
Wanderers enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half with the aid of the wind. Gary Shaw headed home at the back post from a Dylan Barnett corner on the hour mark to pull a goal back. Ten minutes from time, Barnett fired a free kick just over the bar. Wanderers added a second goal in injury time when ex-Cabo man Jack Watson scored from close range.
