Elgin City 2 Bray Wanderers 0

IRN BRU Scottish Challenge, Borough Briggs, Elgin, Scotland. 2 September 2017.

Wanderers warm up before the game

Bray Wanderers Scottish challenge cup ended at the second-round stage away to Elgin City.

Goals at the start and end of the second half put an end to Bray’s Scottish adventure as they lost two-nil in Elgin. Wanderers had 65% possession in the game to Elgins 35% but could not turn in to their advantage. From eleven shots on goal only two were on target for Wanderers. Elgin had nine shots on goal, only three were on target – two of which resulted in goals.

Aaron Greene headed over for Wanderers before Karl Moore was unable to connect at the back post to Gary McCabe’s low cross from the right. Keith Buckley and McCabe then combined down the right and McCabe’s cross was fired over by Ryan Brennan. At the other end Peter Cherrie had to be at his best to save low from a Jamie Reid shot.

Within a minute of the second half starting the home side took the lead through Chris Dodd. His shot from just outside the area deceived Peter Cherrie. Substitute Kevin Lynch was enjoying good possession down the left after his introduction. He played in Aaron Greene whose low cross almost fell to Ryan Brennan in front of goal.

Wanderers were then awarded a penalty with a quarter of an hour remaining when Greene’s cross on the left came off a home defender. Referee Arnold Hunter changed his mind after consulting with his linesman and adjudged the ball came off the shoulder of the defender rather than the hand.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Elgin sealed their win. Substitute Callum Ferguson’s low cross from the right was turned home by fellow substitute Jordan Allan.
