U17 Match Report – Bray Wanderers 0 Waterford FC 5

Bray Wanderers 0 Waterford FC 5

It was a day to forget for Bray U17s who lost for the first time this season against a very good Waterford team.

Having drawn away to Wexford FC and then beaten Shelbourne in another away tie previously in Group B of the EA SPORTS Academy, it was third time unlucky for the Seagulls at home at Ballycorus on Saturday afternoon.

Wanderers conceded early and late in the opening period to trail 2-0 at the break. Further scores just after the interval, on the hour and in second half injury time resulted in the 5-0 success for the visitors.

In a first half of very few chances, the away team took the lead on 14 minutes. Bray lost possession just inside their own half and Waterford striker Zac O’Sullivan was quickly played through on goal to finish past Alex Kearney.

The rest of the period was a very even affair but the sucker punch came with a minute to got until half time.

The Green and Whites again lost the ball trying to play out from their own right back position. The ball came to Callum Costello, who was given the time and space to take the ball down in the box to finish emphatically.

The second half started just as badly as the first half had finished.

In the 49th minute, Kearney’s punched clearance fell to left back Shayne McDonald who struck a wonderful finish into the top right corner.

Romeo Akuchukwu then made it 4-0 to the Munster outfit on the hour mark.

The Wicklow club did have the ball in the net soon after but Paddy Kildee Doolan’s header was ruled out for offside.

Waterford put the cherry on the cake in stoppage time when sub Jakub Drozdek pounced on another error in the defence.

The result leaves Wanderers on third in the section, with four points from three games. Shelbourne and Waterford are joint top on six points.
