Winning run continues with victory in Cobh

Cobh Ramblers 1 Bray Wanderers 2

St. Coleman’s Park, First Division, 21 September 2020

Bray Wanderers extended their current unbeaten league run to eight games with this victory which was also their fifth consecutive league victory.

Wanderers made one change to the starting team from last Friday’s win over Longford Town. Joe Doyle returned from injury in place of the suspended Sean McEvoy.

Bray started well and Ryan Graydon fired a shot just over the crossbar after just three minutes. On the quarter hour Gary Shaw’s header from a Jack Watson free kick came back off the post. Ryan Graydon poked a shot just wide on 19 minutes.

David Hurley has Cobh’s first shot on goal on 36 minutes, but his effort went over the bar. Wanderers took the lead on 40 minutes when Joe Doyle headed home from close range from a corner on the right by Dylan Barnett. The home side were level within three minutes. From a David Hurley free kick, Charlie Lyons got a touch ahead of Brian Maher to poke the ball to the net.

Joe Doyle almost restored the lead for Wanderers on 53 minutes, but his looping shot from a tight angle on the left landed on the roof of the net with Barron stranded. Just past the hour mark Cillian Cantwell’s header from a Barnett corner was cleared off the line.  Wanderers did restore their lead on 65 minutes. Following another Barnett corner on the left, Aaron Barry headed home from close range for his first goal for the club.

Wanderers had a let off on 78 minutes when Brian Maher was forced into a save from a deflected shot. Wanderers finished strong. Two minutes from time Derek Daly just missed a ball across the area from Joe Doyle. On the stroke of time Ryan Graydon found himself clear with a one on one with Barron but he put his shot inches wide of the post.
